The Goonies Cash Inferno by Blueprint Gaming brings the film's treasure hunt underground again, this time using six reels and 6,400 ways to win. Cash Prize symbols, coloured Skeleton Keys and a Treasure Trail sit around the regular character symbols, giving us several routes into the game's collection features.
There’s quite a bit to keep track of once we move beyond ordinary reel wins. Collect symbols can gather Cash Prizes, Gems move us along the Treasure Trail and Inferno Spins can be reached through Bonus Scatters or by completing that trail. It gives us a more involved option when browsing online slots, with a maximum payout of 10,500x the base stake.
The Goonies Cash Inferno takes place inside a rocky cave beside a waterfall and a warm light in the distance. The reels have an unusual layout, while the Cash Inferno panel to the left is topped with a pile of coins and jewels.
Characters from The Goonies appear as the higher-paying symbols, joined by the pirate flag and card ranks. An old gold coin serves as the Wild and fits the treasure-hunting theme. Above the reels is a parchment Treasure Trail, so we can see the Gem progress and the route towards the Bonus without opening another screen.
The game also uses familiar lines from the film for its features. The glowing “Goonies Never Say Die” collect symbol is one example, while the Hey You Guys feature brings Sloth into the action through random reel modifiers.
The payouts below are based on a 1x total bet and show the regular paying symbols.
The Wild substitutes for regular paying symbols but not Bonus Scatter, Collect or Cash Prize symbols. It can appear on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Cash Prize symbols can appear across reels 1 to 6. When at least one is visible alongside a Goonies Never Say Die Collect symbol on reel 1 and/or 6, the Collect feature activates and gathers the values shown on the Cash Prize symbols.
Cash Inferno activates when a Collect symbol and a Skeleton Key symbol land in view together. Its panel contains values from 1x up to 500x the base stake. Green, Blue and Red Skeleton Keys change how prizes are gathered: Green accumulates one prize from Cash Inferno, Blue accumulates up to five prizes and Red accumulates a prize before multiplying its value by up to 5x.
Sloth can appear on any spin and activate one of five reel modifiers.
Bonus Boost adds extra Bonus Scatters to reels 2 to 5 during the spin.
Pinchers of Peril upgrades one or more reels into a winning combination after the spin, while Dynamite Blast upgrades random reel positions into the top and/or Wild symbols.
Hidden Riches gives each reel a chance to be upgraded so that it contains only Cash Prize symbols, producing a Collect win.
Cave In can activate on a losing spin when a Collect symbol is in view, removing symbols before new ones cascade onto the reels to produce a Collect win.
Gem symbols move the Treasure Trail forward by one position. Reaching 1, 5, 9, 13 and 17 collected Gems awards two Bonus Picks at each point. At 21 Gems, the Bonus starts immediately.
Those accumulated picks aren't prizes on their own. They are carried into the Inferno Spins Bonus and used to enhance it, and the Treasure Trail resets after a Bonus.
Three or more Bonus Scatters on reels 2 to 5 trigger 10 Inferno Spins. During Inferno Spins, only Skeleton Key symbols, Goonies Never Say Die symbols and Bonus symbols are active. Four Bonus Scatters also complete the Treasure Trail and award any remaining Bonus Picks. Completing the Treasure Trail during the regular game gives us 10 Inferno Spins as well.
Before the spins begin, accumulated Bonus Picks can provide +Collect, between one and five additional spins, extra Green, Blue or Red Skeleton Keys, or Golden One-Eyed Willie. +Collect adds Collect symbols to reels 1 and 6, while the Key enhancements add more of their respective Skeleton Keys to the reels.
Golden One-Eyed Willie boosts all Cash Inferno values. There are four enhancement levels, with the top level taking the panel as high as 2,000x the base stake.
The reel shape is slightly unusual: reels 1 and 6 contain five positions, while the four middle reels contain four. Every spin has 6,400 ways to win.
Winning combinations contain 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 matching symbols on consecutive reels, starting from the leftmost reel. Wins formed on different ways are added together, and only the highest win is paid for each winning combination. Scatter awards are paid alongside reel wins, and more than one Scatter feature can occur within the same game.
That arrangement leaves the two outer reels particularly important for the Collect mechanic because the standard Collect symbol is active there, while Bonus Scatters occupy the four middle reels. Cash Prize and Skeleton Key symbols can appear across all six.
The Goonies Cash Inferno puts far more around the reels than its 6,400-ways setup initially suggests. The Treasure Trail is constantly visible above the grid, while the Cash Inferno panel sits beside it, so both parts of the game remain present even when we're simply waiting for a regular combination. The three coloured Skeleton Keys give Cash Inferno much of its variety. The random Sloth modifiers add another route to Cash Prize collections, reel upgrades or extra Bonus Scatters during the regular game. There’s a lot happening beyond the regular reel wins, and for us, the more interesting part is how the Treasure Trail carries progress from the regular spins into the eventual Bonus rather than existing as a separate decoration above the reels.
