The Goonies have been part of popular culture for decades, and Blueprint Gaming has once again brought the famous treasure hunters back to the reels. The treasure map above the reels gradually develops as coins are collected, unlocking new features over time.
Players who enjoy online slots that reward steady progression instead of placing everything behind one bonus round will find plenty happening here. The different collection mechanics work together without becoming difficult to follow, while the familiar characters from the film help give the game its own personality.
We liked that the theme feels authentic without becoming distracting. The reels are placed inside a pirate cave and surrounded with treasure chests and old maps, but none of it takes attention away from the gameplay.
The Never Say Die Flag is the top-paying regular symbol, followed by Sloth, Mikey, Mouth, and Data, while the lower-paying symbols are represented by standard playing card symbols from A to 9. The Treasure Map above the reels slowly develops throughout play. Each collected coin reveals more of the route ahead, so there is always another milestone to work towards even when the latest spin does not produce a large win.
The payout values below are based on a total bet of 1.
Wild symbols substitute for all regular paying symbols to help complete winning combinations.
The Treasure Map is not something you can ignore for long. Before we knew it, we were checking it after almost every Collect symbol because each milestone changes what can happen later in the game. Progress starts by improving the collection mechanics, but it doesn't stop there. As the trail continues, more features become available, including the Treasure Wheel, Rush Collect, Golden One-Eyed Willy, Boost Collect, Walking Collect, and eventually Chests of Riches. Instead of unlocking everything at once, the game spreads those rewards across the session, so there is usually another target just around the corner.
Not every surprise waits for the bonus. At random moments, one of the Hey You Guys modifiers can interrupt the base game and change the spin before it finishes. Sometimes more Cash Prize symbols appear, sometimes Bonus Scatters are added, while other modifiers create extra collection opportunities or alter symbols already on the reels. Since you never know which one might appear next, they stop the base game from becoming too predictable.
Collect symbols only appear on the first and last reels, but when they arrive alongside Cash Prize symbols, they quickly become the centre of attention. The Collect symbol expands to cover the reel before gathering every Cash Prize value currently visible. As more Collect symbols are accumulated, the Treasure Map unlocks further upgrades, meaning the feature gradually becomes stronger the longer the session continues.
The coloured Treasure Chests beside the reels quietly keep track of every Bonus Scatter collected. Filling more chests before Treasure Spins begins makes a noticeable difference, as it determines whether the Super, Mega, or Ultra version of the feature is awarded. Each completed chest also contributes its own enhancement, allowing several upgrades to be active together once the bonus gets underway.
Three Bonus Scatter symbols award 10 Treasure Spins, while four, five, and six Scatters also pay instant prizes of 20x, 100x, and 500x the total bet. Any Treasure Map upgrades already unlocked remain available throughout the feature, so progress made during the base game continues to matter. Treasure Chests can still be filled while the feature is running, and every three Collect symbols gathered award five additional Treasure Spins together with higher collection multipliers. It gives the bonus a nice sense of momentum because there is always the possibility of extending the round while improving the value of future collections.
The Goonies Quest for Treasure 3 is played on a 6 reel, 4 row layout with 4,096 ways that wins are awarded by matching symbols from left to right. While regular combinations provide the foundation, much of the gameplay revolves around the Treasure Map sitting above the reels. Collecting coins gradually unlocks new rewards, so we often found ourselves checking our progress just as much as the latest result. With Coin symbols, Collect symbols, Wilds, and Bonus symbols all serving different purposes, there is usually something worth watching on every spin.
What we enjoyed most was that the game never feels as though it is standing still. Every Collect symbol contributes towards unlocking another mechanic, giving even smaller moments a purpose. The familiar Goonies setting helps tie everything together, while the progression system gives players something to work towards beyond the next winning combination. We do think there is a lot to take in during the first few sessions, it may not be the easiest slot for complete beginners, but anyone who enjoys games with plenty of features should feel right at home.
