Spellmaster Slot Game Review

Spellmaster by Pragmatic Play is one of those slots that starts off looking pretty simple, then suddenly becomes much more interesting once the feature round kicks in. The base game sticks to classic line payouts and fantasy themed symbols, but most of the action comes from the coloured Bonus Orbs that unlock different modifiers during the respins feature.

One of the more interesting features is how much the gameplay changes once the reels expand during the bonus round. The standard symbols disappear, the screen opens into a larger grid, and the focus shifts completely towards collecting Money symbols, multipliers, and jackpots. Some rounds stay fairly quiet, while others get busy very quickly once multiple modifiers land together.

The game definitely leans more towards the feature side of things, but the base gameplay moves quickly enough to keep everything flowing nicely between triggers.

Theme & Graphic

Spellmaster uses a fantasy theme built around magic, glowing energy, and wizard style visuals. The whole game is filled with purple and gold colours, with a large white haired wizard sitting in the middle of the reels surrounded by magical effects.

The symbols are exactly what we would expect from this kind of setting. Owls, spell books, potions, and magic staffs appear as the higher paying symbols, while silver card royals fill the lower end of the paytable. Everything looks polished without becoming too flashy or difficult to follow.

The respins feature changes the visuals quite a bit because the normal reels disappear and the game switches to a larger glowing grid surrounded by swirling magical effects. Even during the busier moments, the screen still stays clean and readable.

Bonus Features

Bonus Orbs

There are 3 different Bonus Orbs in the game. The blue orb activates Charge, the red orb activates Multiply, and the gold orb activates the Jackpot modifier during the respins feature.

Respins Feature

The respins round can trigger randomly after collecting Bonus Orbs. During the feature, the reels expand into a 5x6 grid filled with Money symbols and modifiers. The round starts with 3 respins, and every new symbol resets the counter back to 3.

Charge Modifier

The Charge modifier increases the values of random Money symbols already on the screen during the respins round.

Multiply Modifier

The Multiply modifier adds multipliers to Money symbols. Multipliers can go as high as 10x during the feature.

Jackpot Modifier

The Jackpot modifier adds jackpot symbols to the grid. Matching jackpot symbols awards Mini, Minor, Major, Mega, or Grand jackpot prizes.

Maximum Win

The maximum possible payout in Spellmaster is 40,000x the total bet.

Spin Mechanics

Spellmaster uses a 5x3 reel layout with 50 paylines. Wins pay from left to right across adjacent reels starting from the leftmost side. Most of the base game feels fairly traditional, with the real focus staying on triggering the respins feature and collecting modifiers.

Once the feature starts, the gameplay becomes much more active because the larger grid gives more space for Money symbols, jackpots, and multipliers to build together. Some rounds feel fairly short, while others can keep resetting repeatedly once enough symbols land on the screen.

The good thing about the game is that it never becomes overly complicated despite all the modifier mechanics running in the background. Spellmaster feels a bit different from a lot of modern slot games because the base game stays fairly simple while most of the bigger moments come from the respins feature.

Smooth Spins’ Opinion

We think Spellmaster gets much better once the respins feature starts properly because that is when the game finally feels like it opens up. The base game is quite simple on its own, but once the multipliers, jackpot symbols, and Charge upgrades all start landing together, the feature round can get busy really quickly.

The magical theme also works well because the visuals stay clean without covering the reels in too many effects. The larger feature grid helps the respins round feel different from the standard gameplay instead of just being a slightly upgraded version of the base reels.

Overall, Spellmaster feels pretty straightforward at first, but the modifier system gives it a lot more life once the feature round gets going properly.
