Gates of Olympus Slot Game Review

Gates of Olympus by Pragmatic Play takes us above the clouds to a temple ruled by Zeus, with six reels filled with crowns, rings, gems and other treasures. There are no paylines to follow here. Wins depend on collecting enough matching symbols anywhere across the screen, and a winning spin can continue through repeated Tumbles.

Among online slots using this type of pay-anywhere setup, Gates of Olympus also gives multiplier symbols a major role. They can appear in the regular game as well as the Bonus Spins, carrying values as high as 500x.

Theme & Graphics

The game is set high above ancient Greece, with the reels positioned inside a gold-trimmed temple among the clouds. Zeus stands beside the grid, while the reels are framed by gold columns and clouds.

Instead of traditional card symbols, the reels contain objects associated with wealth and mythology. Crowns, hourglasses, rings and goblets make up the higher-value group, followed by red, purple, yellow, green and blue gemstones.

There isn't much movement around the background while we're spinning, so most of the visual activity comes from the reels themselves. Winning symbols disappear during a Tumble and replacements drop into the empty spaces from above. The multiplier symbols are coloured orbs with wings, making them quite different from the regular paying symbols when they arrive.

Payout Table

The payouts below are based on the 1x total bet.

Symbol 8–9 10–11 12–30
Crown 10x 25x 50x
Hourglass 2.50x 10x 25x
Ring 2x 5x 15x
Goblet 1.50x 2x 12x
Red Gem 1x 1.50x 10x
Purple Gem 0.80x 1.20x 8x
Yellow Gem 0.50x 1x 5x
Green Gem 0.40x 0.90x 4x
Blue Gem 0.25x 0.75x 2x

The Scatter pays separately from the regular symbols. Four Scatters pay 3x the bet, five pay 5x and six pay 100x, with Scatter symbols able to land anywhere on the grid.

Bonus Features

Tumble Feature

Every winning combination starts a Tumble. The symbols involved in the win disappear, the remaining symbols fall towards the bottom and new symbols enter from above to fill the spaces.

If the new arrangement produces another win, the process repeats. There isn't a fixed limit on how many consecutive Tumbles can follow the original spin, and all wins produced during the complete sequence are added together.

Multiplier Symbols

Multiplier symbols can land on any of the six reels in both the regular game and Bonus Spins. Their possible values are 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 8x, 10x, 12x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 100x, 250x or 500x.

They matter when a winning Tumble sequence is in progress. Once that sequence finishes, all multiplier values remaining on the screen are added together and the combined value multiplies the total win from the sequence.

Bonus Spins

Four or more Scatter symbols appearing anywhere on the screen award 15 Bonus Spins. The Tumble mechanic remains active, but multiplier symbols behave differently during this round.

When a multiplier appears on a winning spin, its value is added to the running multiplier. That total doesn't reset after the spin, so later multiplier symbols continue increasing it for the rest of the Bonus Spins. Each qualifying win is multiplied by the current accumulated value.

Three or more Scatters landing during the round award another five Bonus Spins.

Spin Mechanics

Gates of Olympus uses six reels with five symbol positions on each, giving us 30 positions across the grid. There are no fixed paylines and symbols don't need to sit next to one another.

A win forms when at least eight copies of the same paying symbol appear anywhere on the screen. The amount increases at 10, 12 and higher matching-symbol counts, with the top payment bracket covering 12 to 30 copies.

The Tumble system means one paid spin can contain several separate winning combinations before the reels finally settle. That changes how we're reading the grid because the first win isn't necessarily the end of the spin. Multiplier symbols add another possibility during those sequences, particularly if several arrive before the final Tumble has finished.

Smooth Spins' Opinion

Gates of Olympus has a fairly simple starting point: collect eight or more matching symbols anywhere on the grid. The way a spin develops can be less predictable once those matches begin disappearing, since every Tumble creates another completely different arrangement.

For us, the multipliers are the part that changes the character of the game most. A multiplier landing without a win doesn't do anything, so seeing one appear isn't automatically significant. When several are still present at the end of a winning Tumble sequence, their values are combined before being applied.

The Bonus Spins take that same idea further by keeping a running multiplier between spins. We think that gives the round a clear sense of progression without introducing a separate grid or a completely different set of rules.
